How to get to Quepos-Manuel Antonio by bus

Suppose you are in San Jose, either because you came from abroad or you live in Costa Rica, and your destination is Quepos-Manuel Antonio where you want to visit some family or have the relaxing vacation you were planning for a long time. Then you ask yourself, how can I get to Manuel Antonio, Quepos by bus?

Let’s start saying this is an adventure, so you need to take some precautions to make a good experience out of your trip and more importantly, will allow you to reach the desired destination safely.

Regardless of where you are in San Jose, the best way to get to Quepos’ bus station is taking a taxi; the bus terminal is located 8 blocks west from the Central Avenue in an area that is not too populated.  Some people like to walk to the station, but it is not really safe to do so. A taxi will charge USD $4 from the Second or Central Avenue and will leave you at the entrance of the Tracopa bus terminal.

When you arrive you will see the green and pink Quepos-Zona Sur buses. Go to the second window and, above on the wall you’ll see the schedules.  If you wish to travel in the next bus available just ask the person at the window at what time departs the next bus to Quepos-Manuel Antonio and buy the ticket.

Enjoy the views in your road trip to Quepos

The trip is made by route #27 also called the route San José-Caldera, and it takes about 3 hours.  After 45 minutes, leaving route #27 and taking the Prospero Fernandez road in Orotina, the bus makes a strategic stop of 10 to 15 minutes, so passengers can use the restrooms or drink something.

Then the bus returns to the road and passes through the cantons of Garabito (Jaco on the track) and Parrita. After the Parrita’s bridge, it is only 35-40 minutes left to Quepos.

To get into Quepos the bus leaves the Prospero Fernandez road at the intersection of the BM supermarket and 2 kilometers later you will find the entrance bridge to Quepos; from there you will see the ocean and the marina.  200 meters after the bridge, the bus makes a left turn at the corner where the Best Western Kamuk Hotel & Casino is located.  The bus terminal is only 120 meters behind the hotel.
